Gloucester, known as the gateway to the Barrington Tops, is a charming country town nestled in a valley under a range of hills known as The Bucketts. Gloucester is located approximately 128km north-east of Newcastle via the Pacific Highway and Bucketts Way. Today Gloucester is the principal town of a cattle-raising, dairying and mixed farming district.
Gloucester offers a rich variety of activities – there are walking tracks, national parks, camp sites, swimming, scenic tours, bicycle tours and mountain biking, vineyards and farm tours. During winter, snow falls on the Barrington Tops and Gloucester hosts Christmas is July, where snow is trucked into the main street of town.
With a population of approximately 4800 Gloucester offers an abundance of shopping facilities, local businesses, primary and secondary schools, day care centres, nursing homes and government agencies/services.
There is an awesome cafe culture – they are always bustling with chatting locals and day visitors on the weekends.
