Raymond Terrace, established in 1837 is located at the junction of the Williams & Hunter Rivers in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, approximately 26 kilometres north of Newcastle on the Pacific Highway. The 2016 census showed Raymond Terrace had a population of 12,820 people. It is the administrative centre of the Port Stephens local government area and remains a reliable service hub for surrounding rural areas.
The town is perfect for growing families with four primary schools, St. Brigid’s Catholic, Raymond Terrace Public, Irrawang Public and Grahamstown Public, and two high schools, Irrawang High School and Hunter River High School, formerly known as Raymond Terrace High School.
William Street offers two main shopping centres in the heart of town being the Raymond Terrace Marketplace, located north-east of William Street and Terrace Central located to the south-west. Both contain supermarkets and a variety of speciality shops including a Big W department store and are within a short walking distance of each other.
There are several competitive sporting teams based in the Raymond Terrace region. The Raymond Terrace Magpies are the town’s local Rugby League team, participating in the Newcastle Rugby League Competition. The town is also represented in cricket by the Lions, a club that participates in the Maitland District Cricket Two Day Competition, and the Port Stephens Pythons. Other favourable sports within Raymond Terrace are soccer, netball, athletics, golf and lawn bowls.
There is also a local boat ramp opposite the Fitzgerald Bridge crossing the Williams River and in Hunter Street. Raymond Terrace is popular for water sports and fishing and they hold speed boat racing in the river. We look forward to seeing you in Raymond Terrace!
